Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate
A very stable, oil-soluble vitamin C derivative that stimulates collagen production and reduces oxidative stress.
Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate
A modern, photostable UVA filter with very good skin tolerance.
Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine
One of the best broad-spectrum UV filters on the market, considered very safe and stable.
Ethylhexyl Triazone
A highly effective UVB filter that minimizes the risk of sunburn and adheres well to the skin.
Dimethicone
A silicone oil that provides smoothness but is poorly biodegradable.
Sodium Hyaluronate
Effectively binds moisture in the skin and provides a plumped appearance.
Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil
This essential oil provides fragrance, but can be irritating, especially with UV exposure.
Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer
A synthetic polymer that can pollute the environment as liquid microplastic.
Disodium EDTA
This stabilizer is environmentally questionable as it can mobilize heavy metals in the environment.
Tocopheryl Acetate
A form of Vitamin E that acts as an antioxidant and strengthens the skin barrier.
Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil
Can cause phototoxic reactions and is a potential allergen for sensitive skin.
Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil
A fragrant essential oil with high potential for contact allergies.

Chapter III · The Deep Dive
The Medik8 Daily Radiance Vitamin C is a combined daily care product that combines an antioxidant effect from Vitamin C with an integrated sun protection factor. Its primary purpose is to protect the skin from premature aging caused by UV radiation and free radicals.
The formulation contains high-quality, modern UV filters and a very stable form of Vitamin C, which makes it functionally excellent. However, points are deducted for the contained essential oils (citrus oils), which have allergenic potential, as well as for poorly biodegradable synthetic polymers and silicones.
| Ingredient | Rating | Function & Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Aqua | 🟢 | Solvent and base of the product. |
| Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate | 🟢 | Very stable, fat-soluble form of Vitamin C; has antioxidant and collagen-promoting effects. |
| Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate | 🟢 | Modern, stable UVA filter (Uvinul A Plus) with good skin compatibility. |
| Dimethicone | 🟡 | Silicone oil that provides a silky skin feel but can lightly seal the skin. |
| Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine | 🟢 | Broadband UV filter (Tinosorb S), considered very safe and photostable. |
| Ethylhexyl Triazone | 🟢 | Effective, modern UVB filter (Uvinul T 150) with high stability. |
| Glycerin | 🟢 | Classic humectant that binds water in the skin. |
| Sodium Hyaluronate | 🟢 | Salt of hyaluronic acid; intensely moisturizes and visually plumps. |
| Citrus Grandis Peel Oil | 🟡 | Essential grapefruit oil; serves as a fragrance, but can be irritating for sensitive skin. |
| Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer | 🟡 | Gelling agent and thickener; belongs to the liquid synthetic polymers. |
| Disodium EDTA | 🟡 | Chelating agent; stabilizes the product, but is poorly biodegradable in the environment. |
| Tocopheryl Acetate | 🟢 | Vitamin E; an antioxidant that protects the skin and stabilizes Vitamin C. |
| Limonene / Linalool | 🟡 | Fragrances from essential oils; known for their allergenic potential. |
While the product uses modern sun protection filters that are less harmful to aquatic organisms than older chemical filters, it nevertheless contains some ecologically critical components.
Conclusion: Technically, this is a very well-formulated sun protection product with an excellent Vitamin C derivative. The combination of modern filters and antioxidants offers solid protection, but is devalued for very sensitive skin types by the addition of numerous essential oils and fragrances.
